I love a good skincare routine, but that can get expensive & require a lot of chemicals. Recently we have been trying to find ways to use more natural products & slowly transition into a chemical-free life. Tallow was a game changer for me, from someone who always has dry skin but oily by the end of the day, I found that using tallow makes the hydration last all day long & helps the healthy oils not pile up on my skin by the evening. I’ve been using tallow on my face & hands (both very sensitive areas for me) and for the first time in a while, I’m not having dryness. I’m also sensitive to strong scents so having something with a very minimal smell is super important to me.

I rendered suet down 5 times with the salt and water method, then filtered & continued that process till there were no imperfections. You’ll want to pour your melted-down suet into a cheesecloth over a bowl to filter any larger pieces out. Then you’ll let your tallow harder after you’ve rendered it. The water and tallow will separate, the tallow will be on top with the water on the bottom between those two will be any imperfections. After the tallow has hardened, you will pull the hardened tallow out and scrape off the imperfections & discard it (feed it to the chickens, they will love you forever), then render down again, filter, harden & scrape till there is no more imperfections on the bottom. You will have the purest form of tallow for your skin by this time. I added a few drops of Essential oils, Vitamin E, Calendula oil & Jojoba oil. This made a perfect very mild natural smell, after the 5th render the tallow smell will decrease a lot and by then you might not even notice it.
